Every summer International People’s College welcome students from all over the world for an intensive three-week course combining Danish language instruction at all levels, workshops, lectures, excursions and lots of fun!
So what is the Danish Language, Culture and Society Course all about? It is an intensive Danish Language Course tailored for small groups (8-12 students) at all levels combined with invaluable insight into the specifics of Danish culture and society introduced via lectures, films, literature and excursions in Denmark. You will learn Danish language, understand the Danish culture and society, and experience Denmark together with a group of international students from all over the world. You will live at our traditionally Danish Folk High School during the summer – a small ‘hyggelig‘ and safe environment a short train trip away from Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.
Every morning in the week days you will begin the day with Danish language lessons. All classes are small (from 8 – 12 students) to ensure you benefit the most from the course. All in all you will have 56 language lessons during the three weeks. In the afternoons and evenings you will get the opportunity to compose your own timetable according to your interests and abilities:
a) Lecture series where you can study several subjects in depth, for example Danish art and design, film, politics, and literature.
b) Workshops on Danish grammar, phonetics, pronunciation, syntax, and the historical development of the Danish language
In the weekends we will go on excursions, meet the Danes, have ‘hyggelige‘ times around the bonfire and other optional arrangements, but you will also have leisure time to do exactly what you want. Read more about the local area here.
During the Danish Language course we offer two full day excursions around the region (both are included in the price). The first one is going to take you on a tour of Northern Zealand visiting some of the most magnificent spots to see, not to mention one of Europe’s most charming museums for modern art, Louisiana. The second excursion will be a guided tour to the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, with plenty of time to visit all your favorite spots.
We offer Danish Language Courses at different levels; hence a specific knowledge about Danish language is NOT required. We would however like to know if you speak or write Danish at all and on what level before your enrolment in the course. This is to ensure that the final composition of the students at the course is for the overall benefit of each individual student. Learning Danish is difficult so we will do our utmost to make sure that the perfect conditions for learning are available. We use the Common European Framework Reference (CEF/CEFR) to determine the levels of individual students. If you are unfamiliar with the CEF, please take your time to look through this overview before marking your level of Danish in the application form. Please try and be as precise as possible – it’s for your own benefit!
After completing the requirements of the course a certificate will be issued as to document your new skills in Danish language.
Apart from an excellent program we offer a cosy, nice and safe environment in which to learn. You will engage with students from all over the world, make friendships, have fun, learn from one another and share cultural peculiarities. You don’t have to worry about anything. We offer nice accommodation (either in single or double rooms), three daily delicious meals, a decent sport hall, a wonderfully lush park with a small beautiful lake and a bonfire place where you can spend evenings dreaming around the fireplace.
The school is located close to the sea, so you could head down to the beach for a refreshing swim or go treasure hunting in idyllic downtown Helsingør. If you have the urge for a real shopping spree, then hop on the train to Copenhagen (read more about Copenhagen, which is only a 45-min ride away, or board the ferry for a 20-min trip to Helsingborg, Sweden.
We quite simply offer you a place where you have no worries, plenty of friends, possibility to relax, watching movies or TV, play pool or ‘fussball’ (read more About IPC here).
