Film Screenings at IPC in October

Join us at IPC for two special film screenings featuring stories from Colombia and Egypt. Both films explore themes of identity, freedom, social change, and the power of storytelling.

The Brink of Dreams

Join us at IPC for a screening of the award-winning documentary The Brink of Dreams, presented in collaboration with International Media Support (IMS).

Winner of the Best Documentary Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024, The Brink of Dreams follows a group of young women in rural Egypt who use theatre and artistic expression to challenge societal expectations, pursue their dreams, and shape their own futures.

Through their stories, the film explores themes of identity, gender norms, freedom of expression, youth empowerment, and the role of art in society.

The screening will be an opportunity to experience an acclaimed international documentary and to reflect on some of the questions and themes raised by the film.

Saturio, el último fusilado

Join us for a special screening of the Colombian film Saturio, el último fusilado (2020), presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Colombia.

The screening will be introduced by the film’s director and screenwriter, Javier García, who will also join us for a Q&A following the film.

Set in Quibdó in 1907, the film tells the story of Manuel Saturio Valencia, an Afro-Colombian poet, teacher, lawyer, and community leader from the Chocó region.

Accused of setting a fire in Quibdó, Saturio was sentenced to death following a remarkably short trial and became the last person to be legally executed by firing squad in Colombia.

Combining historical drama and documentary storytelling, the film explores racism, justice, identity, and Afro-Colombian historical memory.
