Human Rights – a Western Concept?
Are the Human Rights still valid after 70 years?

After three years of diligent work, on the 10^th of December 1948, the UN Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It was a proud day for the assembly, but an essential moment for human beings all over the world.

“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”
(Article 1, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948).

This year is the 70^th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and therefore a perfect moment to stop and think about the true effects of the milestone document. Is it still valid after all these years? And is it truly universal, or a Western concept that is not representative of the whole world?

We value human rights at International People’s College and we find it more relevant than ever to discuss the declaration. We welcome everybody with an interest in Human Rights to the seminar.

International People’s College, a Danish højskole (eng. Folk High School) in Helsingør, was founded in 1921 in the wake of the first World War as a peace initiative. The school has worked to promote peace, intercultural dialogue and collaboration across borders between people of all cultures ever since. Read more about IPC’s history here. The seminar is in English and will take place at International People’s College, Montebello Allé 1, 3000 Helsingør.

Attendance Fee

The attendance fee is 150 DKK.
Student and pensionist fee is 75 DKK.

It is possible to have brunch at the school before the seminar. Additional cost: 75 DKK.
