When the Polish sociologist Zygmunt Bauman was trying to describe one of the key problems of modern day politics, he wrote “Politics and Power have been separated, those in politics are no longer those in power, so those with the ability to decide what should be changed in society are no longer those with the power to do it!”.
In this Folk High School Political Philosophy Class we examine this link, or missing link, between Power and Politics. We look at how power is constructed, the discourses and narratives, while we also look at ideologies, both historically and philosophically, to try and come to an understanding of what drives politics.
Throughout this Folk High School Class we will get acquainted with various philosophers such as Michel Foucault, Jürgen Habermas, Ulrich Beck, Zygmunt Bauman, Thomas Piketty, etc.
