We live in a world where many people are suffering from depression, anxiety, loneliness, eating disorders, stress, suicidal tendencies, or other existential or psychosomatic pains. Despite all the wealth and fancy technology of the modern world life can still seem incredibly tough. Sometimes the thought of finding peace and happiness in a world like ours can seem impossible. But is it really impossible, or are there some tools at our disposal which we can use to carry the weight of existence, maybe even with an occasional smile on our faces?
(Hint: yes, there are some.)
In this Folk High School Mind the Heart Class we will learn to work with our minds, hearts, and bodies in such a way that we can initiate constructive change processes within ourselves as well as in the way we relate to other living beings. We explore different ways to take care of ourselves and taking care of others.
We work with various meditation techniques such as yoga positions (Asanas), breathing techniques (Pranayama), relaxation exercises, free dancing/improvisational movements, the use of sound to affect physical and mental states (Mantras), Qi Gong philosophy and training forms, the 5 Tibetans exercises, and more.
