Folk High School Teacher for IPC

The International People’s College (da. Den Internationale Højskole) is looking for a Folk High School teacher (Da. højskolelærer) to take up a position at the school from January 6, 2022, or at the earliest convenience. The position is nominated at 75%-100% employment rate dependent on your qualifications and is initially a 1 year fixed term contract. For the right candidate there might be a possibility for an extension or permanent employment.

The successful candidate will ideally teach 3-4 subjects (each nominated at 2-4 lessons/ week) and possess key competences within preferably two of the following study programmes:

Main area(s) of competence:

  • A regional study programme, i.e. Latin American, North American Studies, Asian Studies or Middle East Studies.
  • Media Analysis and Theory
  • Pedagogical Theory
  • Political Philosophy
  • Interpersonal Conflict Resolution
  • Religion & Culture

Supplementary competences:
Furthermore, we look for someone who is confident in teaching the subjects in English, possesses a thorough understanding of the Danish folk high school praxis and inclusive teaching style, while not being afraid of adding their own unique mark to the school. While it is not a requirement, it is definitely an advantage to have musical skills (i.e. being able to lead a Morning Fellowship song session either instrumentally or as vocal lead) and maybe even a burst of creative flair, be it as a dance instructor or …?

Documented experience with organising short courses and/or seminars at folk high schools or similar educational institutions will also be considered an advantage.

Other expectations:

The candidate understands that a position as a folk high school teacher involves approximately half of the workload to be boarding school time and a willingness to actively participate in social life at the school together with other teachers and students alike. Every Spring and Autumn term we have 100 students, in the 18-25 age range, from more than 30 different countries, and this clear intercultural aspect sets the International People’s College apart from many other Danish folk high schools. The school is always buzzing with life and activity; in addition, many teachers offer extracurricular activities such as recreational and reflective sessions, study circles, etc.

You understand young people, the complexities, when to intervene, when to give space, as well as being able to be a rolemodel for them.

Applicants with relevant teaching or facilitating experience will be prioritised. Knowledge at user level of Microsoft Office environment and applications will be an advantage.
