This Folk High School Class – Creative Writing – is based on the idea that powerful writing is NOT about good spelling and grammar, but about finding the good story. What blocks creative writing is often our fear and internal editors – voices that have silenced us.
What is a good story? There is no definition, but in this class you will be challenged with many different writing exercises, and introduced to techniques and stylistic elements that can improve and develop your writing.
Writing is hard work and improving it requires practise, and while there will be time set aside in class to do some of the writing be prepared to work on your own outside of our Folk High School Creative Writing Class. You will get feedback on all of your stories.
The Creative Writing course takes students through different exercises to free creativity in writing and to get ‘the strong idea’. We will use free writing, listening and observation exercises to explore different ways of expressing ourselves. Furthermore, we will look at stylistic elements and techniques that can improve our writing.
Methods: The course require that students write stories and are ready to receive constructive feed-back. The classes will start with exercises or sharing of stories followed by time where students can write on their stories.
