Living Lakes Project at IPC

We have beautiful natural surroundings at IPC with lakes, a small forest and park area, and we are dedicated to nurture healthy ecosystems through impactful and sustainable environmental practices. Our current ‘Living Lakes Project’ has several aims:

  • Enhancing Water Quality and Flow: We prioritize improving water movement between lakes to increase their capacity and promote a balanced aquatic environment. This also includes the removal of invasive tree species to support diverse and resilient ecosystems.
  • Creating Hugelbeds and Pollution Control: By constructing raised garden beds (hugelbeds), we enrich soil health and manage green spaces effectively. Additionally, we address challenges like noise and particle pollution in key areas.
  • Community and Expert Collaboration: We believe in the power of working together. Our efforts combine professional expertise with the active participation of students and local residents to create a shared sense of stewardship and to make sure that the beautiful ares is used by many.

This holistic approach blends ecological science with strong community engagement, creating a blueprint for sustainable ecosystem management.

Living Lakes Project is a ‘multi-term’ engagement, which means students from different terms will be involved during the next 3-5 years. Students can both take part in the project when choosing classes at IPC, or when they engage in the community days during a term. Locals from the surrounding area can also join the project – please contact mette@ipc.dk if you are interested in joining.
