The Power of Citizenship: A Debate on Global Responsibility

How do we empower individuals to become active and responsible global citizens? What steps can we take to create spaces for dialogue and positive change in our communities?

In this engaging discussion, we will explore whether young people are more focused on ceramics, expression, and identity than on social change. Is “Slacktivism” – the engagement in political or social causes primarily through minimal effort online actions – becoming the new form of activism?

Furthermore, we’ll delve into the role of activism in fostering positive change and peaceful co-existence. How can we ensure that activism leads to constructive outcomes and does not inadvertently fuel polarization and violence?

Finally, we’ll contemplate the relationship between meditation, inner peace, and democratic formation. How does the development of consciousness contribute to active citizenship?

Join us as we dive into these pressing topics and engage in a meaningful dialogue about the future we want to create together.

Clement Kjærsgård is one of the most popular speakers and moderators in Denmark. Clement has worked for the Danish Broadcasting Corporation since 2004, anchoring various TV-shows, including the flagship current affairs show “Debatten”. 

Uffe Elbæk

Uffe Elbæk is a renowned Danish politician, cultural entrepreneur, and activist. He is the founder of the Danish political party “Alternativet” and a vocal advocate for sustainability, creativity, and social innovation.  

Christian Holst Vigilius

Christian Holst Vigilius is the National chairman of Conservative Youth. Christian’s interests revolve around political philosophy and value politics, and he writes regularly for several different media, including ‘Information’ and ‘Critique’.

Garba Diallo

Garba Diallo is the Founder of Crossing Borders – a nonprofit civil society organisation whose mission is to create impartial dialogue space for socially minded youth who want to build the society they would like to live in.

Ole Blenkov

Ole Blenkov is the Principal at The Folk High School for Development of Consciousness – a school which values are expressed through a fully enlightened individual, physically, mentally and socially, a self-realized human being. 

Laura Krarup Frandsen

Laura Krarup Frandsen is a climate justice campaigner and activist. Laura has a Master of Arts in Womenswear fashion from Royal College of Art, London and has been active in the climate campaign ‘Nødbremsen’.

About Anders Ladekarl:

Anders Ladekarl is the Secretary General of the Danish Red Cross. He was initially employed as the Secretary General of the Danish Youth Council when he graduated, but in 1994, he joined the Danish Refugee Council as the head of the organization’s international department. In 2002, he became the International Director of the Danish Red Cross and has been serving as the Secretary General since 2018. With a background in humanitarian aid and international development, Anders brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the talk.

About Søren Launbjerg:

Søren Launbjerg is a renowned Danish singer, actor, composer, and lyricist with a passion for connecting people through music. He has participated in several musicals, for example, he had leading roles in “Atlantis” at Østre Gasværk in 1994 and in “Miss Saigon” in 1996. In 1998, he performed in “The Black Rider” at Betty Nansen Teatret. He has lent his voice to several Disney animated films – for example, as Aladdin. From January 2009 to January 2024, he was the principal at The International Folk High School in Helsingør. Søren is the program coordinator at our summer course “Den danske sangskat”.

Join us for an unforgettable game of Drag Bingo! Hosted by our fabulous drag queens and kings, this is not your typical bingo game. During a theme week in March students have learned how to perform in drag – and here is your chance to experience them perform as they hosts a game of bingo.

Get ready for glitter, glamour, and good times as we combine the excitement of bingo with the flair of drag performances, and get plenty of opportunities to shout “Bingo!” and win different prices sponsored by the local shops in Elsinore. Whether you’re a seasoned bingo player or new to the game, everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

Concert – Azulejos

Like an echo of a journey from Spain to the Ottoman Empire and North Africa, Azulejos create a personal and unique version of Jewish traditional songs, whose roots are found in medieval Andalusia – be sure not to miss this unique experience!

Azulejos is a constellation of top professional musicians that breathes new life into dramatic and poetic songs from the Jewish folk tradition of ancient Andalusia. The songs are sung in Ladino, also known as “Judeo-Spanish”, and the trio’s original arrangements mirror the musicians’ backgrounds in jazz/folk. To the music is added a touch of Oriental and an echo of Flamenco.

Ladino music has proved a means of preserving the vibrant culture of the Sephardic Jews and the Ladino language, which is considered very endangered and is only spoken by an aging, last generation of Jews from the Balkans, Greece and Turkey. The lyrics tell stories of a life in exile through passionate, dramatic and quirky lyrics about among other things an evil sister, a human-like camel, the wrath of an orphan and unrequited love.

The band members have toured the world and their acknowledgements include several awards and nominations for the Danish Music Awards (both World and Jazz) and the awards Composer of the Year (DK) and The Danish Jazz Grammy.

African Drum and Dance with Sellasi Deworni

Join us for an electrifying workshop led by Sellasi Deworni, an accomplished percussionist and dancer from Africa. Immerse yourself in the rich traditions of African music as Sellasi guides you through dynamic drumming patterns and exhilarating dance moves. During this interactive session, you will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of African drumming techniques, feel the infectious beats pulsating through your body, and discover the joy of movement in traditional African dance.

No experience is necessary – this workshop is open to all levels, from beginners to experienced dancers and drummers. Bring your enthusiasm and an open heart as we come together to celebrate the rhythm and spirit of Africa.

With years of experience performing and teaching across Denmark, and for more than a decade at IPC, Sellasi brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his workshops. Basiru Suso is a professional musician. He was born in Gambia but raised in Mali. His family has been prominent in the field of Kora music in West Africa for many generations. Join us for a concert filled with fantastic rhythms and wonderful stories!
