Conflicts are a natural part of life. Conflicts can improve understanding and create room for positive change. However, unaddressed and unsolved conflicts can lead to stress, anxiety, aggression and violence. Conflicts arise from differences in perceptions, values, misunderstandings, etc.
In this Folk High School Conflict Resolution Class we will analyze situations with the focus on exploring the context in which conflicts occurs and understanding its different components. We place a lot of emphasis on learning how to understand people’s needs, interests and concerns in order to find “win-win” solutions. In the Folk High School Conflict Resolution Class, we also work with active listening, assertiveness, empathy and non-violent communication. Other themes are; the use of language, interpersonal conflict resolution, managing emotions, negotiation techniques and facilitation of conflict solving.
The learning methods include analysis of real life situations, simulations, role plays, games, discussions, lectures. Furthermore, we use recordings to provide direct feedback to the class participants.
